Hi all.
I'm a student (older student) and will be taking a Maya class in Lighting in the fall. Up till now I've been working off of a Macbook Pro but rendering is getting too slow on it and I'm looking for an alternative solution.
I was looking at the 27" iMac with quad-core i5 processor but am not sure the video card will work properly with Maya.
It comes with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card and I thought I heard/read that ATI cards don't work correctly. The card doesn't appear to be upgradeable and there are no other options to buy with without moving up to the Mac Pro (ideal I know but don't have the $$$). I can't find any reports online whether this will be sufficient and when I asked Autodesk directly, all they said was: "We did not certified any iMac with a i5 processor yet, but I can refer you to our last certified hardware. There is limitations and caveats with ATI cards on the iMac though. You can get a look to the certified hardware and have an idea about your concerns."
Does anyone out there have any knowledge of this? Suggestions on what would work that won't break the bank?
Please let me know.
Thanks!
