Hi folks, I am putting together a system for editing 1 or 2 streams of uncompressed d1 video (pal 25fps) I know SCSI offers the best sustained rate, but if you stripe say 4 ultra 100 60gig drives together would that be getting close to the same speed as some of the smaller SCSI raids, not sure what card to get either, must have SDI I/O but the main question is ultra 100 IDE up to the task (with enough big disks striped together)
Cheers, Nick
Yes you can get excellent performance form a stripped IDE system but if you have 4 ide drives the rest of your system will have to be scsi...and since you'd have to get a scsi card anyway to run a cdrom and what not might as well get scsi drives for better perfomance and security
All the onboard RAID mobos I've set up had 8, 4 on the RAID controller, 4 on the standard IDE ports. Put the CD, DVD drives on the standard IDE ports.
