Illustrator 2d to Maya 3d

Hi. I am completly new to 3D let alone Maya.

I have a logo I create in illustrator and wish to make a 3d model and then an animations of it. The animation I guess should be very straight forward but after a few hours trying I cannot get it 3d. The logo is here: http://www.hyalevel.com/ as you can see I hav ea chrome effect done in photoshop on it but I am importing the black and white version into maya. I get the paths but I am trying to work out how to make it round like the photoshop version. Can anyone point my in the right direction and even more so am I using the right app for the job. My final task is to convert the logo into a 3d animated spider that will run accross the screen on their webpage.

selectthe curves and hit 3, thing si the diplay card approximates the importted curves so to not waste resoures on drawing them. They are as accurate as the illustrator ones offourse. Its jut they are tesselated out of linear segments.

The technology is significantly different as the 3d prog cant asume the needed interpolation like AI and photoshop can (they work in pixels 3ds ultimately work on polys and lines, and because it not known in adwance whare yyou look form it then it makes a so.lution thats allmost as good form most angles, because it faster than tor ecalculate the damn thing oever and overa again diced right)

PS also note that 3d progs arent what you se is what you get programs.

They are more in line what you se is by no means the limitation of what you can get if your willing to wait 16 hours for the image to fully render out. Se its not convienent to wait for 16 hour every time you move the camera slightly....

I don't think you understand my aim.

I have the 2d flat paths of the logo in Maya. I can't work out how to make them rounded as in the chrome logo. When I look from side on it is flat and I need to make it with cilindrical legs etc.

extrude circles along the paths! But not their outliunes the actual centers of the paths.

Been trying the Surfaces->Extrude option and all I am getting is some weird abstract wireframes that has no relation to what I have tried doing.

Pay a trained professional to do it for you.
Or go and rtfm until you are capable of operating your software at least on remotely basic level

First of all this is the NEW USERS thread am I correct?

This would mean that I AM a new user. And one would believe that a new user would need to learn the basics... unless your talking about opening, saving, export, importing etc etc.

My apologies for asking newbie questions in the newbie section and asking too many question in which you seem to have the need to offend others.

Seeing I was able to imposrt an Illustrator file into maya and I do know that requires you to save an eps as an Illustrator 8 file to work, and the fact I knew what and where to find the extrud feature would show that I must know at nleast some of the basics.

Just because it isn't working the way I need it too doesn't mean jack about me RTFM.

PS: did you even look at the logo I am using or do you just asume its a simple shape? Oh and also If you don't have anything nice to say, then say nothing at all.

As a new user why are you trying to do a complex project when you should be spending your time learning the program?
You're asking questions in a new user forum, but you're asking questions about a project that someone who should know somethings about what you are asking would be attempting.
I'd say learn the tools, and start something a bit easier.

I create logos off illustrator curves often, I've never done it with the extrude tools, Bevel plus is as far as I've gotten into that. A lot of times you have to use the curves as a guard and model it from scratch using the tools availble in maya.
I think most of your frustrations are comming from , again, attempting something thats beyond your undertanding of the tool set. Try something easier , go through the tools, see how they work and go from there, you'll save yourself a lot of guessing and back workflow in the long run.

Oh, and honestly, that logo is not really complex, its more where you are in the learning process that makes it seem that way.

Huys keep calm... they are right partialy ist not meant taht thsi forum does your job for you.

Raed the docs on extrude se selection order and settings have a hyge impact on the result.

Once i get my lossless codec working (it crashed again i must find a different vendor) i will whip up a example vid
