To add a little more to what HapZunglam has said:
I beleive the file you need is called Soft.8BI. Just put the file in your ...Photohshop/Plugins/FileFormats directory. Restart Photoshop and you should now be able to read and write Softimage .pic files directory in Photoshop. Note: When saving besure to use .pic and not .pict which is also listed.
You can still use the soft2tga or tga2soft command if you need to use your rendered frames in an editing package that doesn't use .pic. If you have Adobe AfterEffects, this reads .pic files directly.
