Importing Video With Transparency

I want to import 3D animated effects into a video editor and place it above a live action video footage. How can you import these 3D animated effects into a video editor without losing the transparency so that it will appear to be above the live action video footage?

My specific problem is that I am able to remove the background of a 3D animation by using chroma key but when the 3D object is only half transparent, chroma key fails. I'm using maya 3D software.

You get transparency if the file has transparency. Thing is fusion just shows you premulted color by default.

If u have transperency in ur 3d element u'll get it. no need to add chroma key ......
