Increasing contrast between skin colour and pink shirt

This is a strange one, I know...but, here goes. I was recently asked by
a client to record some sign language and I did this ok. However, at
full resolution, or indeed, when shown on any half decent screen the
picture is easily understandable and acceptable. The problem however is
that the video is now to be shown on a hand held multimedia device
which is of very low quality (screen wise). Also the video has been
compressed very severely due t bit rate demands etc.

The question is this: Is there anyway, within shake, I can increase the
perceived contract between the shirt and the skin tones? Is there a way
to darken the shirt? Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome.

Roto my friend or key if you are lucky.
They is no magic tool, roto to grade a portion of picture is almost always the solution
Nobody likes to do it but it stays the more useful tool

I am surprised that you are not familiar with rotoscoping, that is the main heart of compositing.
you need to creat a garbage matte to grade, cut or do whatever you want without affecting the rest.

in your case it would be a mult node for exemple that you use to darken the shirt and color corrected it if necessary, inside which you create a rotoshape that you keyframe in time to follow what happen.

i would say it will probably be few roto, the main one to matte the shirt and some other ones matting the hands that you substract to the shirt one with an outside node.

as fxnurbs says...rotoscoping ftw
rotoscoping in shake is actually very strong even though it lacks a few advanced features. you can cover basic rotoscoping tutorials on youtube and im sure doing just hands will be a piece of cake.  just remember it takes time so be patient and i hope for your sake you are being paid by the hour =)
