Sorry if this is an obvious question. I am trying to install the mayaExportSTL script for Maya 2009 on Mac OS 10.5. I have tried following the instructions, (http://highend3d.com/maya/downloads/mel_scripts/utility_external/export/mayaExportSTL-4105.html) but they do not line up with my setup.
It may be that the supported Maya versions only go up to 2008. I was hoping that info was never updated but will still work with the latest version.
My next problem is the file path. I do not have ".../My Documents/maya/8.0/scripts." I did place it in Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2009/scripts as well as a few other places. I'm not sure if this is the right place.
Then it says to open the script. There are several items in the download folder. I cannot open the folder itself, so I chose mayaExportSTL.mel. Later I opened mayaExportSTL.mel.bak, and mayaExportSTL.xpm but they didn't seem to help.
Also it says "Highlight the word mayaExportSTL." There are several places where it says that. Does it matter which one I highlight? I tried highlighting the first one, but it gave me a syntax error when I tried to use it. Next I highlighted the whole script, but when I tried to use that, the script ran, but it didn't appear to do anything.
So what am I doing wrong? The instructions are so brief, and I cannot find any other documentation.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
