Hello Forum,
We are working on a project which combines interlaced footage with CG rendered in frames. Much of the footage needs rotoscoping and that doesn't seem to be possible with interlaced footage. Is there a way to de-interlace all of the footage, do work on it then re-interlace it? It would be nice to just deinterlace the whole thing but then we'd loose the quality of motion. We have never done compositing with footage shot in fields before so any suggestions are much appreciated.
Best Regards,
Kevin
The best bet is to definitely deinterlace your clips. The controls for this can be found in the Timing tab / pulldown. Of course this this assuming your interlacing comes from something shot on film at 24 frmes per second and being transferred at 29.97 to accomodate NTSC broadcast where there is 3:2 field order. Here's links explaining more...

If it's interlacing because your clips are DV, you'll need to deinterlace every frame for it to look right. You can try the Deinterlace node in your "other" tab. In general, just double check that all of your footage and animation is running at the same framerate before you get too involved in a shot.
hope this helps!
