Intersect surfaces problem

hey guys..having trouble with the intersect surfaces command. ok here is the setup...i have a curved plane intersecting a cylinder. the curve that is created on the cylinder is curved due to the shape of the plane. the reason that i am using a plane and a cylinder is because the plane is supposed to become the cover for the cylinder.

when i get the intersect curves i then trim the two objects. when both objects are trimmed, the edges are not consistent...they dont match up all theway around the trim. can someone help me rectify this problem?

have you pumped the tesselation?
trim edges meeting each other will want smooth edge on, and high.

hey there....yeah i pumped up the tessellation, the thing is when i intersect the surfaces, sometimes the curves that are calculated are not indicative of the outline of the intersection. the curve doesnt match up with the cut.

how do i adjust smooth edge?

well the point is that you cant not unless the parametrisation matches wich is very hard to do on trimmed surfaces. This is fine for micropoly tesseleting renderers (or for those that can render over shapes) but not for maya.

well smooth edge cant go beyond 0.99 but you can build at a bigger scanle and it means more controll... its a good idea to dsable curvature check too...

anyway the point is thet the gap doesent have to be filled it is sufficent that its close enough and the renderer wont notice this if good edge antialiasation values are used for those objects!

hey joojaa.... the problem is that when i render really close, u can see the gaps@! i hate that. on some of the other surfaces that i interesect and trim, they are smooth. its just that some of the surfaces do not want to behave and its annoying . i will try and fiddle around with those options u told me about and c what i can do . with reference to the problem..i tried various ways to get it as close as possible....eventually i got it real close...not perfect..but close....and then said screw it!@ i just left it and moved on.

hmm sounds like your global tolerance is waaay too high!

Also if you intend to do realy close closeups you will need to texxelate a insane amount! OR JUST PACH IT!
