Alias|Wavefront tells me it's impossible. So I'm hoping one of you brilliant people might be able to do the impossible. I have a bunch of old PowerAnimator files that I find myself in need of looking at in Maya. PA was on our IRIX boxes. We now have Maya for NT. At one time, we had Maya for IRIX and could easily import our PA wire files into Maya. NT...not so much. Alias tells me we have to basically buy a seat of Maya for IRIX in order to be able to convert the wire files. Is there really no solution short of spending whatever the seat price is for Maya?
"If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?
There has to be a converter that can do it! Maybe not though! Don't you know anyone who works somewhere they have Maya IRIX? Call any Universities close by, and ask if they use Maya IRIX, and what it would cost you to have the files converted. What happened to the old Maya Irix discs? Install Maya Irix on an old Irix machine, then convert! There has to be somewhere that has Maya Irix, where you can bring a laptop with Maya NT if needed!!! Hope you figure it out.....Later
why dont you just post a message on the job board for someone with an irix maya seat to convert them for you?
i'm quite certain renderfarm co's would do it for free if they can get some of your business.
Heh...we are the local university that uses Maya, and we switched over hook, line, and sinker to NT. But the renderfarm idea is a good one. Thank you.
I realized that the easiest thing to do would be to ask A|W for a 30 day license for Maya which they happily complied with. Thanks for the advice, all!
