1) When you left-click an object in max, it becomes selected.
2) If multiple objects are overlapping on screen, clicking repeatedly will cycle through the ones under the cursor.
Feature 2 is undesirable for my purposes*. Is there a way to disable it?
- specifically, the feature leads to this common situation:
Objects A, B, and C are all partially overlapping on screen.
Object A is selected.
The user then clicks on C, but because part of object A is behind C, max interprets this as a "cycle through selection on A" command, and selects the next object in line, which happens to be object B, not C. Thus, clicking on one thing, the user winds up selecting some other, unrelated thing.
I can understand how this feature might be useful in some situations, but on a character rig it's a nuisance; the things that I am trying to pick are always well-exposed (by design) but often overlapping with many other things underneath, giving the tool many ways to misfire.
I'd like to set up the cursor so that it always selects what I am picking on-screen, and never anything else.
The problem can be circumvented by clicking the void to deselect between each selection attempt, but that's annoying.
