Hi, I want to make a wall with Maya, but the problem is that someone jumps through it. And you have to see the pieces of the wall fall down.
I'm not a real expert with maya so I don't know what would be the best approach doing this, I tried with shatter but then it wont fall down into the pieces that I want.
Maybe someone knows a better way of doing all of this. (??)
Thanks
Jef
if it were, say, a brick wall, then build it with bricks...at least for the jump-through region, then use rigid-body dynamics to collide with a proxy of your character. otherwise, if there are no 'fromal' shapes to your wall, build your own chunks that you feel would result from the jump through, perhaps using shatter as a basis to work pff, then run with dynamics again. just ensure that the pieces arent quite touching each other, having little gaps so they arent initially interpenetrating...maybe you use a method to mask these cracks (have a look through the dynamics forum for peoples previous ideas).
gluck!
Create two walls; one made out of the pieces and one whole wall. The pieces don't have to be perfect, nor do they need to meet exactly.
Place the two walls in the same spot, keyframe the whole wall visibility to "on" and the pieces to "off". At the moment of impact, keyframe the visibility of the whole wall to "off" and the pieces to "on".
Then you can set about animating the pieces however you want - the purist in me would say do it with keyframes, but if you want to use dynamics you can not only use a proxy of your character but proxies of your pieces - it makes the solution much easier for Maya to handle.
Actually, I'd probably use a varied approach - maybe use rigid bodies for the larger pieces, then hand-key some smaller pieces to give the scene character. You can use particles as dust and debris coming off some of the pieces as well, for a very complete effect.
