Keyboard mapping

At the first time i start XSI, i select the first option which is XSI keyboard mapping. However, it doesn't seem like it is. I go check the keyboard mapping window, it said it is SI3D mapping. so, it is wrong. I change it back to XSI mapping, click the OK button. It still doesn't correct it to XSI mapping. Right click select, m click deselect. i have to hold down Alt to get the extended menu. This is not suppost to appears in XSI mapping. There has some more of the keys that doesn't work right. I really want to get back to the default XSI key map. How do i fix it.

do the keys switch, in the mapping menu, when you switch from XSI, to 3D? before you click to close the window?

the Alt-key is the extended menu button for me, and I have XSI key mapping loaded

middle click becomes deselecting instead of using shift+Ctrl. Yes, i am on XSI keymap.

What exactly do you want to change?

Sounds like you have the same key mapping as me. At installation you were prompted by "Interaction Model" which gave you 3 selections to choose your keyboard and mouse behavior. There's XSI, Soft 3D and XSI with extended 3D interaction. you can change any of it if you look up Interaction Model in the help panel...That'll give you the paths where those functions are located.

is there any command line that i can insert into -start -run so that will bring back the options so taht i can choose again what kind of mapping i want? "incase i picked the wrong option"

if you delete your user profile for XSI it will revert to defaults, and also ask you about the New Feautres Tour and the keyboard layout.

On a Windoze machine, rename c:usersyourname to something else (or delete it directly if feeling adventurous)

(note that the directory contains other things as well as your profile, so renaming is the recommended action)

i tried 3 times reinstalling. for somehow, that keymap seems stall it into my registry or something, i can't get rid of it. I don't get back that option again in the first start anymore. is there anyway i can import the list from somewhere? I see that i can export the keymap info as html format, can i import back it?

nope, i've deleted as well, you mean from usersusersnamesoftimagexsi1.5 i deleted the whole directry, still never ask me again. Damn, what the hack.

i even remove the hole directry of userusernamesoftimage still doesn't work.

You can clean manually the registry. I had to do it a couple of times. It takes long, but it worth it.

Open system registry (Start > Run > regedit)
Highlight My Computer, and do Edit > Find
Type XSI. Delete all that contain the word XSI. But be careful, some feature have "xsi" but are not related to the software. For example, on my machine some drivers (graphic card I think have xsi somewhere).
When delete something, do F3 (Find Next).

When you deleted everything, start over but with the word Softimage.

It should take 20-30 minutes.

After that, reinstall the software.

are you uninstalling XSI before reinstalling it?

also, you can change those key settings by going the help menu and typing in "Interaction Model". This will bring up all the paths for the menus that can change your key mapping and mouse interaction

what kind of keymapping would you like your system to run? is the current a big inconvenience?

i want to use the default keymap, for some reason that i don't know. XSI doesn't make the default as default. I want the keymap as default as everyone does.

ok well, somehow i got it solved. i uninstall it get rid of all the registry and reinstall, get the first message appears again. i make sure that i choose the correct option. now everything works fine. thank you all who read this post and those who give me suggestions.

I wish I'd seen this post before you went through the trouble of reinstalls or editing your registry. The settings you are looking for are located in the Selection Menu on the main control panel.

At the bottom are 3 settings that have a profound effect on XSI's selection methods:

-Single Select Object in Region: You must always use the SHIFT key in order to select more than one scene element with any kind of marquee or lasso selection.

-Extended component selection: For components such as points and polys, Left key to select, Middle to deselect, right to toggle. Just like SI3D. In this mode, you can still hold down the ALT button while you right-click in order to access options menus.

-Softimage | 3D Selection Model: A combination of both of the above.

XSI 1.5 will sometimes install and set these on or off based on previous settings, regardless of what selection mode you chose during install. If your selection mode is behaving differently from how you like, go to the select menu and modify these settings.
