Kinda Dead Here + Suse 11 Maya Issue

Sup people,

It quietly died out in here. Is there another popular board for (high-end 3D/compositting) graphics on Linux?

On a side note I have an issue in maya 2008 ext2 on suse 11 where some UI fonts are not visible (displayed as boxes). Anyone with this issue/solution?

ok fixed by using default suse 11 64bit motif libs by:
cd /usr/autodesk/maya2008-x64/lib
mkdir old
mv libXm* old
ln -sf /usr/lib64/libXm.so.4 libXm.so
ln -sf /usr/lib64/libXm.so.4 libXm.so.3

Edit: I'm "getting Ignoring Xlib error: error code 2 request code 91" in stdout now a _lot_ which sucks since I can't easily read maya stuff that goes to stdout (terminal). Suse doesn't have native motif22 64bit libs unfortunately. I'll try and install a foreign distro ones and report back.

The problem of maya 2008 on suse 11 was solved, please install the font "rfx fixed" which is needed by maya 2008.
You can find it on OpenSUSE 10.2, 10.3 and other linux distributions in /usr/share/fonts/misc or /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc.

Hey, thanks I'll try that. I've managed to run it on suse 11 without installing the font by using the morif 2.3 64bit libs (as stated above). I've managed to get rid of the anoying messages in terminal by adding "setenv XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS 1" (without quotes) to the maya 2008 startup script. I'll try and revert all to default and use those fonts.

hm I can't seem to find rfx-fixed (or any rfx other then some cyrilic fonts) for xorg either on google or on my suse 10.3 machine. It is not present in xfontsel app on the suse 10.3 box either even though I checked and found out that I have all of the xorg fonts installed. How did you get this info? Could you please post a download link of the said fonts for any distro? Thanks

I copied the fixed[rfx] from the directory "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" on a Debian Sid.

I have exactly the same problem. Some fonts in the ui are drawed as boxes.
For example the text on the buttons within the open file dialog.

I tried to get this font you are talking about but i couldn't find it. Maybe you can
upload it to rapidshare or email it to me?

On opensuse 10.3 everything worked like charm. no glitches, noting.

I really like opensuse 11, I think every release it's an even easier to use OS, bot have the same problem with Maya, my main work tool.
So I updated to Openmotif 2.3 and installed the OpenMotif-libs with no results. I tried with several cyrilic fonts from http://www.inp.nsk.su/~bolkhov/files/fonts/cyr-rfx/ editing Xfree86 and doing the whole process to install fonts; But couldn't make it work I searched for the fonts on my opensuse10.3 and even SLED 10 installs and couldn't find them. So I made the replace of /usr/autodesk/maya*/lib/libXm.so.3 and putting a copy of /usr/lib64/libXm.so.4.0.0 in its place (renamed as libXm.so.3), It works but the ViewCube is now not properly displayed, but thats not everything Maya windows becomes a bit unresponsive when resizing and some of the texts that were not shown as a box before are now cut down or simply not displayed. "Guess is because all the fonts I installed"
I'm really looking for a solution for Maya 2008 in OpenSuse 11, If any of you made it work properly please tell us how, and Songlin Yi please upload your fonts it should be a small file, I downloaded a Devian Sid but would have to make a full install to grab these files.

Hey all,

I've updated the distro through the automatic update and all of a sudden everything works with default Maya 2008 (ext2) install. So no modified libs, no modified fonts just updated a day or two ago.

I had the same problems. The only packages that you need to update in a fresh install is the kernel and kernel source (if you're compiling the nvidia driver - the default ones doesn't match) and

xorg-x11
xorg-x11-fonts
xorg-x11-server

maya will display fonts correctly

also if you have a wacom tablet, update xorg-input-wacom
