Linux Maya 7.01 - Paint Effects Won't Render

I'm using Maya 7 for Linux, & was having the same problem as an earlier poster - strokes were getting double-transformed view when I tried to position them procedurally, though this problem appears only in Maya's interactive display & not in a software render.

I decided to install the 7.0.1 upgrade to see if this fixes the problem, but now I can't any paint effects strokes to render at all. Does anyone know why this is happening?

err.. did you delete your old prefs ?

Also I think you need to delete the old installation of Maya first before installing 7.0.1 because we were havign a problem rendering to other formats besides iff and we were still having the problem after installing the update and Support told us to do a clean install of 7.0.1

Thanks, I did already try moving the ~/maya/7.0 directory out of the way, thinking Maya would re-build all my preferences.

Wiping out the entire 7.x installation & re-installing 7.0.1 sounds promising; I'll try that.

I dont believe this has anything to do with maya but rather the setup.

well 99% of time reinstalling maya does nothing for you. But sure try away.

But just cheek that Mayas actually reading the profs from there because if theres some site wide system variable in place it might not do anything. And that problem would persist even after Mayas gone.

PS. one of the most annoying things ever is GELATO which every time i upgrade cayuses maya to act up unless i rename the gelato directory and set up all the system prefs anew. Mayabe your experiencing similliar issues.

Oh yea at this point I have no idea if installing 7.0.1 will solve his original problem but I do know from experience that installing it over 7 can introduce new problems so in this case it's safer to do a clean install of it.

The 7.01 linux cut had a paint effects render bug where all objects appear in front of pfx(fixed in 8.0). If you are using Linux and rendering pfx (without converting to poly) then you should rollback to the 7.0 release.

That double transform bug was also fixed in 8.0. Note that the double transform only shows up in shaded mode I believe and also does not affect batch rendering.

Thanks for all your help guys... we actually have 8.5 now so I'm going to use that going forward. Originally I was trying to put off rebuilding a bunch of API code for 8.5, due mainly to laziness on my part, since moving up a major version of GCC usually leads to time-consuming battles with the compiler. But so far that hasn't been too bad.
