linux useage

ive been using maya 4.0 for windows, and i just crossed over to maya 4.5 for linux.

what are the new key commands + mouse commands to do basic things like zoom and pan?

also, how do i get rid of that ALT+ thing that makes the window move around (a KDE thing i think).

hrmm theres a KDE setting to change the alt key from a mouse modifier to nothing so that your apps can use it.

i thought i had found it, so i changed it from ALT to something else. but when i restarted X, it hasnt changed anything.

where is this KDE setting, in KDE 3.1 ?

Three options for you to try:

  1. From with in Maya you can adjust your shortcut keys. I believe the mouse functions are included.

  2. In SuSE it's /Start Menu/System/YAST/Hardware/Mouse/ (Select 3 button/wheel intellimouse). I can't remember how to do this in RedHat and even if it's an option in Fedora. Though you should have some sort of Control Panel interface in other distros.

  3. www.kde-apps.org. Do a search for mouse utilities. I found a handy tool called Media-Detect that helps to configure not only specialty keyboard/mice but also other program/tools.

Why can't anyone read the damn Installation manual??? This question is asked all the time. You would think you could spend 5 seconds to look in it. I'm not trying to be an [censored], but when the question is asked every other week, it gets, well annoying.
