I am doing some lypsincing on a 2700 polygon head. The computer isnt able to handle the blendshapes at real time or even close. does anyone now of any techniques, other than playblasting for working around this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

why don't you check out the new voiceworks plugin, its good!

When i work with a nurbs patch model it's easy cause all you have to do is hide the geometry that isn't affected by the lipsyncing. So all i have left is the mouth to work with. I suggest maybe making a dup of your head, hiding the original, and then delete the faces that aren't needed in the dup to keep it in real time. Then take the blend shape animation data and copy it back to the original. I don't even know if that would work cause i don't use polys much.

what is the speed like in wireframe.. any better ?
do you have any history on the mesh that is slowing it down?

the problem is that you will never achieve a 'true' speed in realtime with current setups.. the only way I know of is to playblast. (which sounds like what you are doing)
I have a similar problem steve that my lipsynching with driven keys can't maintain 60fps and i have a really good gfx card... my playblast can't even maintain 60 fps either...

yes the voiceworks plugin is good! (im just testing it at the moment)
One problem Ive had though, is it only works using the setting as NTSC30fps and not NTSC60fps...
This just means that i have to keep changing my setting to NTSC60fps before rendering... its a slight annoyance but still cool. !!

thank you everyone. The wireframe thing didn't work for me either. I have a ton of history (lattices, blendshapes, and stuff). Does anyone know where to get the voice works plugin and is it free?

But 2,700 shouldn't chug TOO bad... what kind of
Graphics card are you using?

32 mb diamond stealth pci. I really need agp from what I have been told. i think that i may be slowed down by a lattice that i put on the head after the blend shapes, but I need it, because the characters mouth was wide open without it. Is it possible to delete just this lattice from the history without deleting the blendshapes?
