Little White Dot?

ok, bear with me,

Having been primarily a modeller for years, this is all new stuff to me, so anyway : -

I'm getting to grips with animation, and busy working my way through the 'jack in the box' example. However, I've come across something that has stumped me, I'm supposed to edit some keyframes by hand with the mouse just by clicking on them and moving them around, fine I've done that previously, but for some reason, it all seems to be locked, I'll select a keyframe and all that I get is a white circle stopping me from moving it, what have I done for this to happen, or how do I get around, I'm using a character set, and I'm basically at the point in the tutorials we're I'm adding follow-through to the lid.

The little white dot is Maya's 'Hey--you haven't selected a manipulator!' warning.

Press 'w' to activate the 'Move' manipulator and you'll be able to carry on. Press 'r' for the scale manipulator and you can scale the keys instead. I guess 'e' will also let you rotate them but I can't ever recall doing it (that would be a weird operation in the Graph Editor!).

well, while we're on the subject, holding down the shift key while middle clicking on the keyframes in the graph editor will constrain the movement to your first gesture, either vertical or horizontal. You might also want to turn your time-snap on so you snap your keys to integer keyframes, not floats.
