Loading setup files and defined keys

Hi,

I know you can change the sisoft.bat file to load your prefernces on start but i'm not sure how.
Can some one enlighten me please.

Hi 4ndy,

Not sure why you want to do this because there is not much into this file, but to edit it just simply r-click on the file and choose Edit. That's all!

Your SISOFT.BAT file will probably look something like this:

echo on

---

To load your preferences you need to alter the line 'soft %1' to point to your preferences files, as follows:

---

soft %1 %SI_LOCATION%3Drsrc -s dave.sts -k dave.sks

---

Hi Dave, do you know what is the command to load my own color (.col) file in this fashion?

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any way to do this. If anyone knows if this is possible, please tell us how!

You might check on www.edharriss.com then select Plugins/Soft 3D. At the top of the page is a plugin called "Default Colors Utility ".

You cannot load desktop color files via command line - it's an ancient bug dating back to v2.6 that never got fixed....and probably never will.

To use your own default colors upon load, you'll have to hack the desktop.rsrc file in your installation. It's a simple ASCII text file that can be editted in any text editor. If you decide to try this, make sure you make a backup copy before doing any editting as this file controls the entire interface, not just the desktop colors. So if you get tired of seeing purple for the modeller, this is where you can change it.

Heh, thanks! Actually I use Textpad but out of habit I still refer to it as Notepad. I have a few hours spare this afternoon so I am working on a small VB app that will allow you to edit the desktop.rsrc file visually (with a color picker). Not very useful to many people I know, but now I have it in my head I'm going to have to do it!
