Sorry to double post this, but I didn't get any responses to in the MEL forum...
Is it just me or does the lock vertex normal not work at all?
The idea is that I want to lock the vertex normals at a seam before I separate two polygon pieces so that I don't get a lighting seam. I know I tested it in the past and it worked fine, but now that I want to use it in actual work, it doesn't work.
Try this - make a polySphere and select a vert. Use the Normals menu to set the normal to lock. This should lock the normal at its current orientation. Now move the vertex around and, if you have normal display on, you will see the normal is not locked at all!
It works fine if I do a set vertex normal first, but I am trying to avoid the work to write a script that will query the normal, then set it, when this is something that should work right out of the box.
What am I missing? Like I said, I swear I have had this work before - maybe it was on 4.0 (I'm on 4.01 now).
