Make a video file from a render

I have just come from Light wave, I am evaluating XSI and im confused. I see that XSI render menu only renders to images. Where does it render to a video format?

You can't render directly to video. You have to render first, then use the flipbook to generate the video file.

Even if XSI adds this option, I wouldn't suggest that you use it. Direct rendering to video is a bad idea. If your computer crashes/power goes out/little brother kicks the plug out of the wall/whatever, you might lose the entire animation. If that happens when rendering frames, you only lose the current frame.

If you just want to do a quick test avi, use the capture function. It renders directly to Avi.

mmm ive lost my fare share of 20hr animations in the last 3 seconds of rendering....... frames are far more wholesome.

direct video is'nt good, you cannot change particular frames. if you want to change a little sequenze in the animation, you must render the whole animation again, this cost a lot of time.
