i have been using maya for a few years now and must admit that this is an embarrassing question. I have pretty much just dealt with this issue in the past, but the image planes i am using for the current project are making the visibilty of the grid very difficult.
Once i set up my image planes and turn on the grid, the image planes always display on top of the grid. I would like to have the grid "lay over" the image planes so that it is easier to see. In the past i would just lower the alpha of the image planes and was able to work with it. This particular project is a bit different. When i lower the alpha enough to see the grid (which displays behind the image planes at this point) it makes it hard to see the image plane.
i saw a tutorial where the image planes were completely opaque and the grid was on top of the image. I had never known you could do this. It would have saved me a bit of frustration in the past. I have positioned the image planes (side, top, front) to be behind the grid. I.E. the top image plane is positioned under the grid so, in theory, the grid should be displayed on top (when looking through the "top" view). Unfortunately, it has no affect on it and the image plane is still appearing on top of the grid forcing me to lower the alpha in order to see the grid behind it...which is killing me on this particular project.
any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!
