Making Columns React To A Plane (with Soft Selection)

Hi everyone,

I have a series of columns, with a plane (editable poly) over the top of them.

I want to manipulate the plane in the z-axis using the soft-selection tool and make the columns react to the movement the plane makes.

Here are some images about what i mean:



Does anyone have any hints as to what the best method is?

Here's the solution.

Create a plane
Move it up in the z-axis to where you want it to be above the columns/buildings
Convert the plane to an editable poly
Create one column/building
Go to the Motion Tab on the Command panel
Under the Assign Controller area Click Position: Position XYZ
Click the little button (Assign Controller)
Under the Assign Position Controller dialog box click Attachment > OK
Under Attachment Parametres select Pick Object
Choose the Plane
Un-tick Align to Surface
Select Set Position and move the object to where you want it on the plane.
Deselect Set Position.
Go to Track View - Curve Editor and under World > Objects > Cylinder > Object (Cylinder) > right click Height and choose Assign Controller.
Under the Assign Float Controller dialog box click Float Script > OK
Under the Script Controller window make a name called cyl or bld
Then click Assign Node
under World > Objects click Cylinder > OK
Under expression delete what's there and change it to say -cyl.pos.z and click evaluate > close.
Close the Track View - Curve Editor.

To add more columns/buildings click the first column and push shift+v
then go to the Motion Tab on the Command panel
Un-tick Align to Surface
Select Set Position and move the object to where you want it on the plane.
Deselect Set Position.
