Maya 1.0 "Am I OLD"

I bought Maya 1.0 at a computer show in Connecticut for $300.00 It is a full boxed set in a very cool black box with full manuals and CD's. My question is that I see everyone here and the minimum seems to be Maya 3.0. Is my software woefully ancient compared to the rest of you. I come from Hash Animation Master background. Thanks for your time.

yes, your software is quite old, however if i was starting to use maya and to truly appreciate what maya can do i think that i would start out wiht 1.0 then move up the ranks, i know alot of people will be like WTF dude but i love maya 3 and wish that i could have started out with one to see how far she has come.

wow... maya 1.0... the good old days. for $300 dollars you are getting pretty good value, for 300 bucks, you can't even buy programs like raydream.

-good price, I would recommend pilliging the mel scripts, on this and alias's site, theres some good ones for 1.0 that will give you an idea of some of the tools in the later versions of maya.
-Istarted w/ 1.0 myself, used every version since, they get a little better everytime...

be carefull, you can't buy Maya for 300 bucks. I guess what you got is illegal. If you do not have a support contract with aliaswavefront, you will not receive any upgrades (costs near 2000$ per year). Did you got a special serial number for your machine or a dongle? If not: your software is cracked. You can not buy a used maya license at all, all you can do is, to transfer a license from one person to another, which means that aliaswavefront has to be informed about the transfer, they send you a special paper to fill out.

No special papers or anything. I saw the box sitting there and I asked how much. It is not cracked or pirated. It came sealed with shrinkwrap in a large black box with the silver ebossed Maya logos. Thier are three little drawers that slide out of the box and the manuals are grey. The CD's come shrink wrapped seperately in a little binder that says "MAYA TOOLS FOR 3D MINDS" On the back of this package is the liscense disclaimer. I'm not dumb, I wouldn't pay $300.00 for a pirated CD. I saw the box and recognized the name. I remembered seeing this software in my 3D Magazine and said what the hell, lets see what all the hoopla is about. As far as transfereing the license, I'm not planning on upgrading it. Just want to learn, if I like it I'll buy it outright. I'm not out to cheat Alias. I've been a loyal customer of HASH Animation Master for six years and have bought every upgrade. Also the aformentioned RayDream, which is now Carrara. I think so far that the software has much power. Even though I find that Hash's modeling is more intuative and I can build organic models a whole lot easier. But man is Maya rock solid. I've had the thing rendering almost ten hours a day since I bought it and it has not crashed once. Animation Master still is a little flaky and willl crash from time to time. Maya renders a little slow though. Thanks for all your responses.

The renderer in 1.0 was dog slow . But by3 its a little faster.

I bought a set of Maya 2.0 manuals and it also came with the original CDs for about $300. BUT they're USELESS, without a dongle.

I have dongle and am working fine. Renderer is SUPER SLOW.....
