Maya 2011 files not working in 2010

Hi i was wondering if anybody could help me...
My school just got 2011 and i only have 2010 at home...
so i can't do any of my work at home cause my files i've done at school wont open?
help please!!!

Using the Ignore Version allows you to open 2009 files in 2011, and 2011 files in 2009, correct? Will there be any problems going back and forth? I figure that for things that haven't changed between versions, it'll be fine, and anything done in 2009 will work in 2011, it's only if new features of 2011 are used, it won't open properly in 2009?

When you bring a file made in an older version to a newer version, it says "file created in older version, if saved, won't be able to open in older version", that's not true though is it, if you use "ignore version"?

Also, can I have both 2009 and 2011 installed on my computer?

This once happened to me 5 minutes before a very hard school deadline. They put in Maya 8.5 on some machines, but still used 8.0 on others, within the same room.

I saved it as a Maya Ascii file and changed the Maya version in the text file. Or someone else did rather, thanks Bob!

this is for the people who go to Art Institute of Portland are Any AII and Purchased Autodesk Education Suite for Entertainment Creation 2010 from Journey ed.com...

This problem only occurs for Windows 7 64bit that I can see from my computer....
An Error message=
Progress Window : maya.exe-Sustem Error
         X: The program can't start because splash.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

tried:  i have installed and reinstalled on that same PC with 32 and 64 bit options but it keeps popping up with this same message.  as i open any 2010 Maya on this PC Maya begins to load in background while it takes 3 times for clicking OK to get past the messsage.  then, the Maya 2010 opens.  I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS SAFE TO WORK ON THIS WINDOWS 7 AND SAVE INFORMATION, SO I HAVE BEEN ONLY USING MY IMAC, WHICH HAS NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS SOFTWARE.

WHAT DO I DO OR HOW DO I SOLVE THIS COMPLICATION?
