Maya 2k8 Win X64 Amd64 Render Problems

Hi There,
I am having hardware problems with my 24 cpu (MIPS), 37Gb of RAM Onyx2 running Maya 6.5 on IRIX, so I have been messing with an animation I have been working on for the last few days on a vanilla white box AMD64, 4Gb RAM Windows XP Pro64, Maya 2008 (64 bit). I am not used to Windows and I am not used to Maya2008, it seem to work strangely or not at all, I feel like a "noobie"..

I strongly suspect the issue is something with Windows but I have tried changing file systems, directories, permissions, everything I can think of and I consistently get rendering issues with generating AVI files. If I render a single frame to an image format like sgi or png, then I have no problems, but with AVI I get this in mayaRenderLog.txt

I have searched these forums but could not find a combination of search terms to find any other thread close to this problem. There is no spaces in the file paths, all the directories have read/write set, I can't see a problem or I wouldn't be posting..

Any ideas...?

render to an image sequence

Doesn't really address the problem but anyway... How to combine the image sequence?
Will Adobe Premiere 4.0 join output.1.png ... output.300.png into a single AVI ...?

You should beable to do this in Premiere.. I don't have an install of it currently but I'm certain it has a method for importing file sequences.

The only time I ever render to an AVI is when I'm doing playblasts and even then it can sometimes be cumbersome. The main reason to not use it for software renders is that they can easily be corrupted and cannot be rendered to by multiple machines.

As to possible reasons why it wasn't working for you.. does your account have admin privileges .. is the project on a server. Were you trying to use a codec besides none? Which render were you using? Is your c drive nearly full?

If you've been on Irix all this time then why would you suddenly try to start rendering to avi's? just curious.
