Hi everyone. New to the list, but I thought you guys might have an idea of how to help me out.
I'm running Maya 3 on a Mandrake 8.0 box (PIII 800 with 512 megs RAM) using a Matrox G450 with XFree 4.0.1.
Maya loads and runs fine, until I try to use the IPR or render. It immedately crashes without an error message. Linux still runs fine. Maya just goes bye bye. I'm purchasing an Nvidia Quadro Pro 2 this week and am hoping this will solve the problem. But...if it's not the video card, I'm hoping you guys might know what's wrong. I've been using 3D Studio Max in Windows 2000, but decided to switch to LInux & Maya. I'm really hoping I don't have to switch back.
I had the same problem. I am almost positive it is your video drivers. You are going to have to do some reading on setting up the Geforce cards in linux. I installed Redhat 7.1 and the problem disappeared.
You successfully installed Maya (which version?) on Red Hat Linux 7.1? Great. Can you describe your system specs as I am planning on switching to Linux. I have an AMD 1Ghz system and a PentIII system and have to decide which to run it on.

I had the same problem. It is necause OpenGL support is not enabled in your XFree86 configuration. Use Linux drivers from Nvidia and enable "glx" module as described in Nvidia's README file
