So it seems like I was on the right track.
Using the Alias support page (http://www.alias.com/glb/eng/support/maya/faqs-tutorials/license/floating_mac.jsp), I set up the aw_client.dat file on the client computer.
At first when I typed "aw_flexlm start" into the terminal (after logging in to the superuser), the client computer just had a license error and showed the console window which said:

However, I then tried to turn on the file sharing on the license server computer. After restarting the license server, the client computer would go to the Alias Product Configuration Wizard (awpcw). It would say that:
"Maya 6.0 could not be started because the only available license on this computer is for a previous version of the software. Please use the options below to request and install your new license."
The options are the usual Urgent tasks (Request an activation key for Maya 6.0, and Download license upgrades for Maya 6.0).
Since I have several licenses for Maya on the license server computer, I thought that maybe if I deleted the other license numbers except for the Maya 6.0 numbers in the "aw_server.dat" file then it would work (I of course made a backup of the file first).
This way it would say that "Maya 6.0 could not be started because there are no appropriate licenses installed on this computer. Please request and install your license using the options below." (the options are the same that I mentioned before)
I believe that I have a node-locked license. Can you still create a license server with a node-locked license?
If anyone has any way of solving this problem, then please let me know. I just got a new computer, and I am trying to get Maya to run on my new computer. I know that I could transfer the license to the other computer, but I would rather have Maya work on both my old computer and my new one. Thanks for all your help.
