Maya 6 very slow to load

I recently installed Maya 6. It would load in about 20 seconds and ran fine for a few days. Recently it has begun to take about 3 minutes to load. Seems to work fine after that. I thought I might have a virus so wiped the drive to all zeros and reinstalled everything. Maya worked fine again for a few days then same problem. Tried shutting off Zone Alarm and anti virus when loading but no help. Monitored fast and slow loads with Regmon and Filemon (two very cool free utilities) and it seems to be a problem with hard drive access but I am not sure. Photoshop and other big progs load just fine. Plenty of hard drive space, 512 Ram and Intel P-4.

Sorry for the long post but I am cornfused. Any help is appreciated.

512mb of ram.. well that's the minimum to run maya.. it could be that Maya is having to use virtual memory to load? How much ram is the system using without any apps running? What OS are you using BTW?

Have you added cripts that need parsing during startup?

System uses approx 190 mb at idle. Biggest hog seems to be java. OS is Win-XP.

To test my theory that it's memory related try turning off all the plugins, and turn off the modules in preferences>modules

If anyone is still interested, I discovered that "jsdaemon.exe" was causing all the problem. It is a process that runs the fax portion of the HP Jetsuite print driver. For some reason whenever Maya started to load, this program would jump on and hog all the processor time looking for some files that did not exist. Kicked it out of my start menu and all is well. Thank you for your suggestions.
