my configuration is similar to Dark Knights (CPU lower = 2.4GHz) and also, i have installed nvidia drivers on Suse 9.3 which runs xorg not xfree86 and i have installed maya rpm package with yast.
but i have little problems:
- once when i clicked for opening layout "Persp/Outliner" maya crashed
- when in persp view shade was on (level 5), and when i pressed space maya crashed
this is not happening always... but if u haven't saved your work it makes you go wicked
also I want to say, I'm proud of my SuSe, and it is best distro i have tryed (suse 9.3 pro | i'm not very pleased with suse 10). With almost a month full time working on Suse i hope i will get used not to use (
) windows any more (accept on job).

Set an environment variable MAYA_DEBUG_ENABLE_CRASH_REPORTING before running Maya, if Maya does crash you will get a stack trace. If not and its reproducible, then running under gdb will generally give you the stack trace "maya -d gdb" (with out quotes).
As for the comment regarding "xorg not xfree86" even though Alias was notified several months ago on their support forum that the Qualification Chart needs to be edited due to the error stating SUSE Linux 9.3 uses XFree86 nothing has been done about it. Maybe they should consider replacing who ever is in charge of that
Oh and my current configuration has been recently updated (see below). I'm holding off on upgrading to a dual core 64-bit system until I hear what cost Boxxtech will sell their soon to be released quad processor (dual core AMD) workstation. I figure if we're going to spend our money on something it should be worth every dollar. Though I'm sure this workstation won't be cheap.
