Maya 8.5 Sp1 Ncloth Fields

We are having inconsistent results using Maya 8.5 sp1 and nCloth with fields. It appears that the fields work the first time during playback then each iteration of playback the field effects the nCloth mesh later in the timeline. One temporary work around is to apply a new field to the nCloth mesh every time you run the timeline or before making a new cache file or sometimes restarting Maya. But none of these solutions seem practical. It's difficult for us to use Maya 8.5 sp1 for our current project without fields running properly and our fear is that going back to the original distribution of Maya 8.5 would introduce older bugs that have been resolved with Maya 8.5 sp1. Has anyone had similar issues using Maya sp1?

There is a current bug where the fields have the described problem when the nCloth node is not visible in the viewport(was around before sp1 as well). Note that the nCloth node is not the output mesh, but rather displays as a little icon in the viewport. You need to have nCloth display ON in the panel show menu.

If you have this enabled in the show menu and the nCloth icon is visible in the viewport, yet still get this problem please submit a bug report.

Hi Duncan,

I did see that bug reported in the kowledgbase. I do have nCloth display ON in the panel show menu and it does seem that my bug still persists. In the case of a turbulence field I know that it does work properly the first time. It's just that each proceeding playback pushes it's effect further along in the time line. I have asked our shop to submit a bug report. In the mean time I just went back to the original installation for production but left our farm running sp1. We are caching our cloth sims so I think we should be okay.
