Here's the problem.
1st I'm taking Camera data (Free Camera) from 3dsmax along with a ground plane and some people placers for Reference. The 3dsmax file is imported into Maya via FBX. Everything comes in fine. Maya creates an fbx root locater that everything is underneath that. Now I'm trying to take that data from Maya and import it into After Effects via the .ma (maya ascii) import. Here's the actual problem, AE doesn't like groups so when it imports it imports that root fbx along with the camera. However it doesn't import the other items, for instance I have locators as placeholders in maya for position reference. They don't come in because of that fbx root group.
How can I ungroup that root in maya without having the camera lose its global positions.
Here's what I tried I took all the data inside that fbx root and froze the transforms then I grouped it inside that.
Camera animation still worked
Then I moved that group out of the fbx root and it still worked fine. I then tried to ungroup it and it f*** up the camera motion.
I was told that if I take a point contraint and contrain it to the camera and rebake the animation in maya that it would be work. I still can't get it to work.
To make a long story short I need to import the data as an ma. file into AE with the locaters and camera.
I hope someone could help me on this.
What we're doing is comping in our green screen people to our cg scenes.
obviously I could use rla but this offers a more accurate solution to compositing our greenscreen to our cg scene.
