I'm new to cloth and have a couple of issues:
I'm going for a very silky (using silk material preset), flowing garment look - it's a cape type thing flowing behind a slow flying character. I've noticed that even when I have the cloth object tesselated pretty high (6000 faces) I'm seeing faceting in the render. If I tessellate much higher, the calculation times are unreasonable. I did a test at a base resolution of 60 (@6000 faces) and got @ 20-30 seconds per frame simulation times. I upped the rez to 80 and the calc times per frame went to almost two hours each...
I've got turbulence, radial, and newton fields with field constraints, plus a transform constraint. I really need to minimize the faceted look...
Also, I'm interested in rendering this in PRman. Does anybody out there have experience going from cloth to PRman? I'm doing this through MTOR, and have had success, including making the cloth object a subdiv surface. But I'm still seeing the faceting in the subdiv (just because there are so many control points in the poly mesh that it forces the surface into sharper angles than I'd like).
Any help on these matters is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
John T.
