Okay, first we have to clear something up. Macs are faster than PCs. Sure, you can add a bunch of cards and make the PCs almost as fast, but until you stop running a microsoft operating system on a poorly engineered processor, you just won't outperform one. Ask anyone who uses both.
Secondly, the only reason why high-end 3D software such as MAYA was not originally designed for the mac is because of the slump Macs were in a few years ago. Their future was questionable and software designers were leaving. Now it is resecured its place at the top and software companies are making new commitments.
Now, that we have that out of the way, I am ecstatic about the release of MAYA for the Mac. This is a brilliant move on their part. I hate to break it to you, but a large percentage of people buying the new Macs are former PC users. MAYA is seizing the opportunity to be the premiere 3D software on the Macintosh. What this will mean to you PC users is MAYA will have more income to spend on improving their software and all users will reap the benefits. No one has licensed MAYA for Mac, so everyone will be buying it at one time. I wonder how that will affect their stocks?
So, all of you skeptics and mac-haters should realize that this announcement is good for MAYA and relax. Think Different.
