Maya Crashes When I Import

Okay, here's the problem. Whenever I try to import a certain file into the scene, Maya crashes. If I open the file normally, it's fine. If I use a reference, it's fine. But when I import, it crashes.

It crashes even when I imported into a new file with nothing in it.

Has anyone else had this? Any suggestions for things I can look into?

Any help is much appreciated.

Okay, for anyone else who may encounter this problem, I got around it by first making a reference to the file in a new scene, then I imported the reference into the scene, and just saved that over the old file. It seems to work now. Strange..
