Can anyone help me? I tried everything I could think of but since I reinstalled a SP2 slipstreamed version of winxp pro vlk and then installed maya 6.0 unlimited it just does not run! It starts to load but when the main windows appears (so before any button appears - just the gray xyz grid) it stops responding... I tried with reinstaling and rebooting but nothing helps...btw. before I formatted my system I also used winxp pro wint sp2 installed and everything worked great...
What display card do you have and have you updated the driver for it?
You're not the first to complain about an issue with Maya running on Windows XP after updating to SP2. Have you sent a bug report to Alias? If not then follow this link ( http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/log\_a\_bug/index.jhtml ). My suggestion is to uninstall SP2 if you chose the option during the SP2 installation to archive your files.
tnx but I am also a microsoft beta tester and I am using SP2 from it's first release and everything worked great before... Now I use a slipstreamed version, so it can't be uninstalled...the only hint I maybe have about the problem is that both java.exe and wrapper.exe (that came with maya) during maya startup need acces to 127.0.0.1 and I had to enable it through zone alarm... still, even if I shut it down before running maya, the result is the same...
I use radeon 9000 pro tweaked, currently with catalyst 4.7... as I said, before it worked great...
Radeon eh? You are playing with fire Something was bound to go wrong at some point.
There is a note on the latest Maya qualification charts about winXP sp2 mentioning a problem with SP2's internal firewall causing trouble for Maya... There are ways of making sure it doesn't interfere with Maya without disabling it, which is what I did...
Also, try to rename your windowPrefs.mel and userPrefs.mel files - they could be corrupt...
good luck,Henrik
Yes, you are right Henrik, I had the same problem, but after enabling lmgrd and sgiawd in firewall, Maya runs great. BTW, you need to stop/atart the licese server every time you shut down or restart the computer your license server is on.Avto
