libFoundation.so is part of openMotif, isn't it? But the latest version is fully installed (I also tried the version included with Maya, but that was the same story), so I don't understand what it's complaining about.
Anyway, all assistance would be greatly appreciated.
From what I've noticed so far; it looks like issues with the openGL libraries. 7.2 uses MesaGL; and 7.3 uses an internal X server library to draw openGL. I tried instlling nvidia's openGL libs with no luck. Now I'm attempting an install of 7.2 with an upgrade to 7.3 just to see where it goes from there.
I recently set-up Maya on a Red Hat 7.3 machine for rendering only, and had to apply kurgan's patch to make it work. I don't know if you are aware of this or not; it was posted on the list server last month.

Subject FIXED: Making maya work with redhat7.3 (glibc2.2.5) Posted by Soren 'kurgan' Birk Jacobsen Posted on 05/16/02 11:57
ChrisFord was so kind to forward me some hints from an AW software engineer.. And I finally got it to work, you can download the required files and explanation from http://home.kurgan.dk/kurgan/maya/ the file is called maya40x_glibx225_fix.zip
heres the gory details:
Making Maya 4.0.x work with Redhat 7.3, or more specifically glibc2.2.5 and newer versions of openmotif.
#1: Maya 4.0.x will not run on the newer versions of openmotif, fixing this is easy, just put the libXm.so.2 into your maya/lib directory ( usually:/usr/aw/maya/lib/ )
#2: changes in glibc2.2.5 (vs. 2.2.4) has highlighted a minor problem in maya's code regarding the synbold _dl_loaded, to fix this I have (based on a hint from an AW engineer and ChrisFord.. thanks!) written and compiled a shared object file 'myobject.so'. Put the myobject.so file in your maya/lib directory ( usually:/usr/aw/maya/lib/ ) And replace your maya start script (usually: /usr/aw/maya/bin/maya ) with the one included.

hint for users of redhat 7.3:
just get the openmotif21 compatibility packages ( look at rpmfind.net ) and install them. They will provide the correct libXm.so.2 and will make your newer openmotif version compatible with dynamicly linked older apps. ( there is sometimes a reason why there is a newer version out
Are you sure that's not a path problem? After I installed kurgan's patch I believe I had to modify the symbolic links in /usr/local/bin/maya to point to the patched executable...
how do you modify a symbolic link? I'm very new to linux, and I was recieving the same errors stated above, but I haven't tried the kurgans patch yet, I just wanted to know how to do the link thing...Thanks.
as long as you have permission to do so, you can do it two ways:
first, remove the old link then create a new one: rm link ln -s /usr/aw/maya/bin/maya link
or, do it in one step ln -sf /usr/aw/maya/bin/maya link
(obviously, link is the symlink you want to change. there are differences between being in the directory and doing it to the link, or using a full path to the link, i think, so you may want to try it out)
