I understand that Maya does not have a setup to turn rendered pictures to movie files. Is this so? I'm a new user to Maya, so forgive the question. If Maya doesn't have one, then how do you make movies? Is there a program that does this for Maya? I tried to output the rendered frames as Softimage .pic files, to use Softimage's makemovie feature, but Soft won't recognize them. HELP!
Practically any compositing program will do this. You can also use Quicktime Pro to load a series of TGA or SGI files and then compress to a MOV or AVI. There are also probably many sharware programs that would convert a sequence to an AVI.
So to answer question.. Maya deos not come with a utility to make a compressed movie.

Does anybody know of a good stand-alone program to do this then? I'm using a 320 VWS and we all know how they hate quicktime, so it makes things that much more difficult when you can't use quicktime pro.
I've never heard of machine specific problems with Quicktime.
Quicktime 4 and the 320 don't get along at all.
That's weird?? I can't imagine what the problem would be? It's windows and pentium procs.. what could SGI do to mess it up? I've never had problems with Quicktime on any system.. although I have never worked with the SGI NT boxes.
I looked at the sgi support page http://support.sgi.com/nt/product/320/.. I guess it could be some problem with the Cobalt drivers and Quicktime.. still pretty lame.. they was at least some minimal suppor tfor Quicktime on Irix you'd think it would easy for them to get it to work on Windows.
Here's some Shareware apps that make AVI's.. I haven't tried any thing myself but I think one of the Blaze programs will treat you right.

so....that freaky F-Check won;t do it ?
..........are you held accountable for crimes committed by your siamese twin?......
I would be nice if Fcheck could play audio and export compressed movies.
yea i usaly jsut crank up After Effects.. though i am suprised F_check hasn't gotten that ability ..i mean ..how hard would that be to add right? Seems to me , might be wrong, that F-check on IRIX had more power....
so can Adobe After Effects change sequential frames into compressed movies? how about Maya Fusion 3 (not digital fusion, don't have that..... yet) how about Combusion 1?
plus, anybody tried any of those programs one of you listed above? do they work well for converting frames to video?
yea, any package that can't take sequencal frames into the time line better be free.Yep AE works fine. and so does combustion one..I skipped Fusion but yes , it will too.
