Maya Navigation Script Question

Hello!

I really like the navigation hotbox in Maya, but it's a little deep for my taste, especially when using a tablet.

The way to get to this is hold Spacebar, click on the center Maya button, then drag to the desired camera.

I create most of my scripts by observing what happens in the Script Editor, but nothing happens in the Script Editor when I do this.

I'd love to be able to hold one key and flick my stylus to switch views.

How do I create a hotkey for this sub-hotbox?

The easiest way would be to go to 'Window > Settings/Preferences > Marking Menu Editor'.

Find the 'CommonModellingPanes' Marking Menu and below, under Settings change 'Use marking menu in: Hotbox'
to 'Hotkey Editor'.

Then in 'Window > Settings/Preferences > Hotkey Editor' go to 'User Marking Menus' and find 'CommongModelingPanes_Press' and assign your desired key.

There are other, more involved ways, such as creating you own Marking Menu and do the steps above, but this is the more straight forward. The 'New Camera' item won't be in this menu.

Note that this way the menu won't show in the Hotbox anymore. If you want to have both you have to create your own Marking Menu.

PS: you can change your current camera by middle-button dragging the camera from the outliner to you current view.
