Maya to .avi or .mov smoothly?

when i render a movie as an .avi file, it seems a lot slower than it is in the project window. can anyone give me a URL or directions on how to make it as smooth as the project window? do i have to speed up the frame speed or something?

i'm a newbie, so i'm terribly sorry if this is a stupid question. thanks in advance.

If you dont have fast LVD harddisks, you wont have any chance for a smooth playback.
You have to compress your avi. Use the cinepak codec for avi, or sorenson for quicktime.

can you give me a step by step instructions? i'm not quite sure what you mean by "compress your avi". when i want to save my animation as an avi file, i go to 'Windows > Playblast'. i've tried to do the 'Windows > Render Global', but i can't seem to save it as an avi or mov movie.

if this is wrong please let me know. thanks again.

you need to use a post program like Affter Effects or Maya Fusion. I would 1st , render out say atarga file sequence...then(2)take that sequence into your post program , (3) do your post , (4) render out your avi, whatever, with the comprestion of choice. If you want to see a test playback of your scene, use the Fcheck , not an avi file. If your final out put is avi , then use your post tools to acheive a good clean one.

Open the playblast options and click on "compression"
Here you'll find a list of codecs...they all suck, but go with cinepak.
Btw, i hope you know that playblast only renders a preview.
The real thing is render/batch render.
