I haven't come across that problem on a Mac either.
And to make this post actually count, I'd say that the feature I would like to have implemented in Maya is greater ease of use. I think A|W is obviously trying to get a larger market, and the market they seem to be headed for is smaller graphics houses, 2D and 3D, that can't really afford to dig deep into this software. I understand that nothing is easy, but there could be better improvements in simple things like environment setup and lighting.
To me, being a new Maya user, setting up an outdoor environment, with trees, rocks, and other filler stuff has proven to be a very time consuming task. There are other programs out there that can do what I have just listed in a matter of moments. But in Maya it could take weeks to get good results.
Of course I don't think Maya should loose it's functionality though. The ability to tweak just about everything involved in your 3D environment is great. But I don't think digging into Maya's deep interface/feature set's, will be a selling point for alot of users. It's simply too much work for one person to have to do on there own.
But most of my wants in Maya are probably moot. Because I've now found that I am learning, and doing more than I thought I could on my own. Go figure.
