Mel & Max Script

For those of you familiar with MEL, do you have any experience working with Max Script? If so, do you find them at all similar or completely different? Do you have any good sites or info about learning it?

Separately, since Autodesk owns both maya and max now, and have implemented python into Maya, do you think they'll work on getting python into Max as well, and make the two programs work more harmoniously together? I want to learn into learning more about max script, but if it may be outmoded with python, I'd rather not bother.

Thanks!

It would make sense if Autodesk did incorporate python into MAX but personally I don't think this is a priority for them. Python in Maya is not a replacement of MEL imo. It allows you to do things you couldn't in MEL but at the cost of more complicated code writing. I imagine the same would be true if python was implemented in MAX.

i am also thinking the same one .. coz is mel scripter can get max script
some how easy ?? i know there is some UI Editor also so desaign part will be
much easy i think and coding part i dont have any idea ..

Hey Kurian, i have some idea about Max Script. Its somewhat different compare to MEL.It supports some OOPS features. But as a 3D Programmer its not a difficult one.

I was watching some basic tutorials on it and the basic syntax and logic seems somehow...different. Like you don't need to input as much info or something. I'm not sure. maybe the examples were just really simplified. I feel as if MEL is a more powerful way to do things, but that's probably just my impression.

Mel == maya whereas max script is a language riveted on the side. Anyway max script has many strengths but Mayas nodal design has many advantages over max.

Msya python also has the same riveted problem.

Mayas python also has the same riveted problem.

What exactly do you mean by 'riveted'. Its more constrained from a certain aspect?

he's means it's not integral to the program and that it was added on top at a later date

And a later add is allwys not quite what youd want it to be ;9
