Most of the UI elements have the arugment, for example, look up the doc on "button", and down below in the arguments, it'll have a "-bgc" section. So you could do something like this:
button -l "my button" -bgc 1.0 .75 .1 -c mycommand;
Layout's also support it.... many things. But remember, this is only in v4.5
