Mental Ray (11)

Hi,

I am a newbie in maya but I try to give my best to get everthing right.
My question is how and where can I get mental ray. I think its a program (plug-in)
And what do I have to to to render with it ???

if your maya version is above 6.0 then mentalray shipped wih your maya (its actualy a abit different form mentalray standalone). if you open the render vieew ther should be a drop down menu that enables you to choose it but incidentaly is sometimes has a habit of dissaperaing.

se the faq for mentalray in the maya faq section for more info if its missing.

I have maya 6.0 unlimeted

but actually when Im in the renderview i only can choose between software and hardware rendering.

So I dont know where I coulnd find mental ray

Window>Setting/Prefs>Plugin manager

enable Mayatomr.mll

yes thats actualy explained in the faq.

wel heres the entry:

Ps failure we will want people to read the faq so would be nice to link there, ssaves repetition. you probably want this too. If you feel something gets asked much add it to the faq.

Maybe we should adopt somekind of internal policy on not answering questions that are in the faq, once someone is told to check the faq! otherwise they wont learn to help themselves? Any comments on this idea?

sorry but i need a full explination of that because I am a newbie in this scene.

where do I have to enable this? in maya or in windows

umm isnt it kindof ovious? i dont remeber windows having a window menu. So if youd need to do this in windows then the isntuction would be different.

Sure, I'm always for rubbing somebody's nose against the faq. I was away for a while. Kind of lost in this new inverted layout. . And new policies

So now we can add entries to the faq. That's neat

no load what you need everything else just will ad stuff to the menus and in general east memory up. (besides it increases chance of crash)
