Merging Vertices

This is such a newbie question im almost embarrased to ask, but im on my 48th hour and getting loopy. I'm trying to merge vertices from two seperate Poly object together, I know "merge vertices,edges,etc" works within the same object, etc. I know i can convert everything over and then back, but I know there's gotta be another way. Anyway, how would I merge two poly vertices from two seperate shapes? Again sorry if this sounds like a loopy question, its just because I am such. Thanks again

You simply cannot merge components from two seperate shapes. If you could they wouldn't be seperate shapes would they? What you are asking for is a contradiction in terms...
Unless what you mean is not merging the verts, just snapping them both to the same 3D position..?

what exactly do you want to end up with? two seperate objects with snapped vertices or a single object with merged vertices?

I have scripts that can probably help you but until you stop talking in paradoxes I can't really help!

I thought I made it pretty clear that I wanted to merge two objects' vertices, so I don't know what paradox's you speak of. Since when is merging two components (shapes) a thing that "cannot be done"? This comment bytheway.. "You simply cannot merge components from two seperate shapes. If you could they wouldn't be seperate shapes would they?" makes no sense. you're saying that if two objects are currently seperate, they can never be one. I really like this forum but I'm really tired of people answering questions like they're an authority and that the question has no validity, especially when it's a matter of semantics. And yes it CAN be done, I just didnt want to have to convert over to a Sub D and then back everytime to attach two objects together.
FInally, all I was forgetting to do was to do 'combine' with two objects selected first, then 'merge vertices', so I guess it can be done even though you say it cannot?

No he says if they are separate you cant merge the vertices! First combine them into one object then merge!

but are you just trying to snap the points?
