Howdy all,
This might be a stupid question, but since I haven't been able to remedy this, I'll ask...
How do you locate materials that contain missing maps and/or strip out the missing map files? By this I mean that I often run into issues when I have imported large CAD files or other files provided by clients that may be missing one or more maps. I get the 'Missing External Files' dialog box when they haven't included all of the map files that the scene required. Unfortunately, these scenes usually have several hundred if not thousands of pieces of geometry which are usually named, "Obj_2145" or something similar, so it's very difficult to track down the specific piece of geometry that was mapped with the missing file. I've tried to go through the Asset Tracker [Shift+T], but that doesn't show a way to track down the missing materials that contain the missing maps.
The Material Editor doesn't seem to have a really good way of locating the maps either. If I only had a few maps to deal with and a few pieces of geometry, it wouldn't be such a problem, but it's usually when there are thousands of pieces of geometry and multi hundreds of maps that this becomes a real problem.
This is a real problem because net rendering fails when the 'Missing External Files' dialog pops up, so I have to render each scene on a single machine.
I've tried looking through the Asset Tracker, Material Editor and the 'Configure Paths' with no luck. The only way I have been successful is on smaller scenes when I can load the materials into the Material Editor from each piece of geometry using the eyedropper button and checking the map slots, or by searching the the 'Material/Map Browser and manually trying to locate all instances of missing files. Unfortunately this takes way too long on the massive scenes that I am dealing with....
Any ideas??????????
