Ok, I have moved on to my next character in my short.
To make this rig viable, i need to place a spline IK between 1 and 2 (see image)
When attempting to apply a spline IK, maya spits out the following:
Error: The selected items must be from the same skeletal chain.
Help?

notes: 1 is the neck. 2 is the base of the tail. the yellow joint is the root.
