Hi, guys I'm trying to find a solution to this problem for days. I got a grid of particles that I would like to animate on just 1 axis (say y) and I would like to translate them with a 2d texture. I did some test and I always get them to move as one object (UV 0,0 position I think) but not PP. I tried to use nurbs plane as reference and to scale UV of the texture right in space but this didn't do it probably the same issue as before. Help please.
Ahh tricky one you actualy need to take the color of each particle up and asign it to a pp valy for this.
Also if youre using software blobbies then theres no way of using other than one color per particle (while you can project on a per frame basis).
So could you explain a bit more accurately what you want.
The effect is basically simple (in my head) I just need to use an image or 2d texture as a displacement map for particles but they got instanced geometry that I actually want to move and this way seems logical maybe I'm wrong. The effect is to have a grid of cylinders move in one axis making shapes of different looks. Simple it sounds but I didn't manage to do it, for now.
hey joojaa, do you have any idea as to why you cant query the UV value of a pixel from a file texture node? ... past from other post in anim forum if you missed :
This [UvCoord lookup] works fine for the standard proc. 2d texture nodes, but for some reason it doesnt for the file texture node . why this is, i do not know, someone able to enlighten? rather strange given that teh textrure swatch shows the colour at the UVCoord ...but when you query the outColor/Alpha attribs it dont give ...can pipe the attrib into a material, and it picks up the info, and will render it correctly, but it too wont hand over the values [like a getAttr]. WTFGO? anyone?
cheers.
