I have some home video that's been prepared for DVD as MPEG-2 which I want to convert back to MPEG-4 for upload to YouTube.
However, no matter what render settings I use I seem to end up with skipping/popping in the audio track.
The video was originally PAL VHS and was captured using a DV cam to uncompressed AVI. This was then rendered out as MPEG-2 from AE. It has remained at native 25fps and PAL resolution throughout. Unfortunately I no longer have the original file, so I am stuck with the MPEG-2. However, the file needs to be broken into two to get around YouTube's 10 minute limit on length.
So I either need to simply cut the video in two, or re-render it out into two shorter parts. Normally I might use Quicktime to simply trim off the end but QT does not read the MPEG-2 file. So I've been attempting instead to render out two halves using AE to MPEG-4 with the Xvid codec, which is recommended by YouTube. This is when the popping occurs. I've also tried rendering the MPEG-2 back to uncompressed AVI, thinking the interim step might solve the problem, but the AVI also had the same problem. It seems therefore that I'm unable to render the MPEG-2 to any other format without having sound problems.
So can anyone either:
1) Recommend a rendering approach that will clear this problem/suggest what might be going on here?
or
2) Suggest a method of cutting the MPEG-2s in half without having to re-render at all?
Thanks!
