Does anyone know how the new MR compares to FinalRender?? ( http://www.finalrender.com/finalrender/ )I'm especially interested in speed comparisons.

Go check the Render List archive on this site. This topic has been plentyfully discussed recently... you'll find 65 posts, with comments from Thomas Driemeyer (head of mental ray's development team), people from Exluna (Entropy renderer) and of course a developper of finalRender:
